Recently, President Obama was in Japan and was asked by a journalist if the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were correct. Our President, whom many members of the press have idolized as being the greatest intellect to be President since Thomas Jefferson, was unable to answer a question that is basic to our country's alliance with a major ally.
If President George W. Bush had performed as poorly as President Obama, the press would have talked of nothing else for days afterward. Remember when Bush was the candidate back in 2000 and he was asked to name foreign leaders and was unable to remember all of them? The press went wild.
Will the press cover this latest embarrassment by Obama? Unlikely, unless the White House can figure a way to blame President Bush for the words that did not come from President Obama's mouth.
Our President appears to have a poor understanding of history, as well as economics, geography, physics, mathematics, as well as many other areas of human knowledge.
I would guess that as he has gone through life, he has made statements or observations about topics that were out of his narrow field of study and was never corrected or admonished for a fallacious conclusion based upon a shallow understanding of the issue being discussed. Obama then believed that his statements reflected his superior intellect which required no further effort to study on his part.
The President apparently does not have great curiosity of the world around him. From the information provided by the White House, he is not a great reader. From the people he has picked to advise him but he has had very little contact, we can infer that he does not want to hear an opposing viewpoint.
Outside of the study of law, he is poorly prepared for the office by his formal education, life experience by management and decision making, life experience by accomplishment, life experience by confronting personal tragedy, and life experience by confronting one's own errors and failings and learning from his own mistakes. The one part of his life for which he has the greatest pride was his community organizing but even then, he is unable to list any great achievements. Did his efforts bring employers with jobs for his community? Did he improve the housing in his community? Did he get greater accountability from his local government? Or, did he organize to put pressure on government to force the politicians to throw money at some problem of his choosing? Other than Obama, who benefited?
